I will check it out. Thanks. I don’t need PCI-Express 5 switches, personally. I am more in line for an old Ford tractor….

Looks like both Synopsys and Cadence (following Jeff’s last paragraph) are aiming for this indeed, with non-retimed linear optics drive … (hopefully not overly expensive by the time it comes to market):

Cadence: https://community.cadence.com/cadence_blogs_8/b/ip/posts/cadence-showcases-world-s-first-working-128gt-s-pcie-7-0-ip-with-off-the-shelf-optics

PCIe has to be the most compatible problem free protocol in the computer racket. That is a good thing and I would not see it screwed up.

If there is a great breakthrough needed in PCIe it is increasing run lengths without retimers. That’s what ppl should be worried about – because the PCIe5 spec is too expensive and inflexible on the mobo already & it is only going to get worse.

I want to build a new system, but I can’t find a MOBO with enough PCIe 5.0 slots. YOu’re lucky if you can find a MOBO with even 1 PCIe 5.0 slot. I want at least 4 PCIe5.0 slots.
