Seamicro on the other hand had proprietary IP in the form of a multi-cpu “fabric”. Mellanox also cost nVidia 20x what Seamicro cost AMD.

On the other hand AMD’s acquisition of ATI for $5billion was in hindsight a blessing in disguise.

ATI had IP and was nVidia’s main competitor, not only in GPU but in chipsets as well.

AMD got more for the $6billion it spent on ATI than nVidia got for the the BILLIONS spent on Mellanox.
